Call for extended abstracts for presenters at Living Data 2025 is OPEN

14 August 2025

This October, TDWG is teaming up with another three biodiversity networks: the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS) and Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON) for the joint conference Living Data 2025.

Dedicated to advancing biodiversity data standards, integration, and community engagement, the conference is running under the theme: “Unified information driving transformation”. The main topics of the event are standards that promote data sharing and interoperability; access to diverse sources of biodiversity information; and
the progress toward conserving and restoring the planet's biodiversity.

Living Data 2025 will take place between 21st and 24th October 2025 in Bogotá, Colombia, and also online. The organisers expect hundreds of scientists, researchers, practitioners and other experts from around the world to join the members of the four networks.

Registration for in-person attendance will be opened until 10th October 2025, while registration for virtual participation will remain possible until 24th October 2025.

Once again, TDWG invites presenters to publish extended abstracts in the Biodiversity Information Science and Standards (BISS) and enjoy permanent and far-reaching accessibility and discoverability for their conference contributions. TDWG extends the invitation to ALL presenters at Living Data 2025.

The deadline for submission of an extended abstract at BISS is 1st October 2025.

In case anyone has concerns about taking the time to submit and publish an extended abstract even though their presentation has already been accepted at Living Data 2025, the TDWG network has thoroughly provided a list of the advantages on their website.

As a start, an extended abstract published on BISS enjoys most of the benefits of a conventional research article, such as DOI registration, indexation at dozens of scientific databases, embedded media, tables and supplementary materials, and usage metrics.

Find more about the eligibility and the submission procedure on the TDWG website.

TDWG has been collaborating with the open-access scientific publisher Pensoft since 2017 to provide a convenient and technologically advanced scholarly platform for participants at the annual TDWG events. With BISS, their conference contributions become permanently and efficiently discoverable. On the BISS website, organised by conference, but also by symposium, you can find nine collections, dedicated to all TDWG events since 2017, including the 2019 Biodiversity Next, and the joint TDWG-SPNHC conferences in 2018 and 2024.

At Living Data 2025, we invite conference participants to visit the Pensoft stand (#9) to find about the publisher's exclusively open-access peer-reviewed journal portfolio and innovative publishing solutions. Together with long-term collaborators LifeWatch ERIC and Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Pensoft is organising the symposium "Long Live Biodiversity Data: Knowledge Transfer and Continuity across Research Projects" (Session ID: 6788879).
