Japan has repeatedly been struck by natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, and earthquakes. In particular, the opportunity for collaboration among museums nationwide arose during the aftermath of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, where tens of thousands of natural history materials required restoration. Curators of museums are actively working on various measures to preserve natural history specimens, reduce damage, and facilitate restoration after disasters.
